Professor Hongbin Cai
Dean of the HKU Business School
The University of Hong Kong
I am delighted to welcome you to the Economics and Finance Society Inauguration, especially as this year is the Society’s 85th Anniversary. This impressive achievement says so much about the Society’s enduring legacy and commitment to supporting our Economics and Finance students. I am equally pleased to welcome this year's Cabinet, whose members are sure to uphold the Society’s tradition of supporting and empowering the full Society.
Let us take inspiration from this year’s Theme of reaching the greatest success by working together. With all the advances and challenges we face in our rapidly changing world – especially given advances in AI, geopolitical shifts, and more – the connection between HKU Business School and one of our oldest student associations is vital. We count more than 2,000 undergraduates in the 2024-2025 academic year, which makes the Economics and Finance Society one of the largest and most active student organisations within HKU Business School. Together, we have upheld the delivery of invaluable resources, opportunities, and a sense of community for all our students.
I am confident that the Society will continue to lead with its innovative programmes and opportunities to grow and thrive. Here’s to delivering new learning and work opportunities that will shape the future for everyone in the student Society, Hong Kong, and beyond.
I look forward to celebrating another rewarding year with the Society and all its individual members.
